Life Legacy
Warren S. Oxendine, 87 of Joplin departed this life on Monday January 18 at the National Health Care nursing center in Joplin.
Warren began his life on September 28, 1922 in Newtonia, Missouri to the late Sherman and Omia (Troxel) Oxendine. On December 31, 1943 he was united in marriage to Loma W. Colwell in Berryville, Arkansas and to this union two children were born. He served honorably in the United States Army during WWII where he earned a Purple Heart for his gunshot injury in Kolon, Germany. He was retired from Eagle Picher where he worked as a purchasing agent. Warren enjoyed basketball, baseball and especially square dancing and round dancing, where he and his wife were proud members of the Western Twirlers and Tanglefooters.
Mr. Oxendine was preceded in death by his wife, and two siblings, Dorothy and Fred.
He is survived by his son Kenneth Oxendine and wife Terry of Gainesville, Georgia, a daughter Vera D. Oxendine of Kansas City, Missouri, two granddaughters and one great grandson and one great granddaughter, a brother L.V. Oxendine of Joplin, and two sisters Mildred Hutchings and husband Claude of Fairview, Missouri and Eva Holder of Butterfield, Missouri.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 am Thursday, January 21 at the Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary with Reverend Larry Six officiating; burial will follow at the Osborne Cemetery in Joplin. A visitation will be from 9:00 am thru 10:00 am on Thursday prior to service. Online condolences can be sent to the family at www.thornhilldillon.com care of the mortuary.
